In 2012 Muriel Vázquez Architecture was appointed by a private client to refurbish a 19th century house within the historic center of Jaén, Andalucía. The house had been inhabited for more than 15 years. In spite of the building was dilapidated, the space had a great potential.

One of the premises in the project was to integrate as many bedrooms as possible in order to allocate the numerous integrants of the family that will use the house during the holidays.

The main problem of the house is the lacking of natural light in many rooms. The room distribution has been completely transformed in the project, maximazing the open spaces for the family meetings as well as allowing natural lighting in every room. The small existing courtyard gains prominence in the project getting visually involved into the living room thanks to full high windows proposed.
